RSC Anderlecht will almost certainly be without Bart Goor for the remainder of the season after their influential captain tore a calf muscle in training.

Championship race
The Brussels side, leading the Belgian First Division by two points from KRC Genk with six matches to play, were hoping for better news but scans have revealed a muscle tear requiring four to six weeks of rehabilitation. The 34-year-old Belgian international midfielder suffered the injury on Tuesday.

Major setback
His absence will come as a huge blow to an Anderlecht team hoping to return to the UEFA Champions League by clinching the title, having participated in the group stage this season. Goor has played 188 league games during two spells with Anderlecht, scoring 40 goals. The former Hertha BSC Berlin and Feyenoord man should be fit for Belgium's UEFA EURO 2008™ Group A qualifiers against Portugal on 2 June and in Finland four days later.
