A goal in each half from Jan Vennegoor of Hesselink saw Celtic FC progress to the final of the Scottish Cup with a 2-1 win against Saint Johnstone FC at Hampden Park.

Double strike
The Netherlands international opened the scoring from the penalty spot on 13 minutes after he had been brought down by goalkeeper Kevin Cuthbert, and although the first division outfit levelled six minutes later when Stephen McManus headed into his own net, Vennegoor of Hesselink scored what proved to be the winner eight minutes after half-time, heading in a Shunsuke Nakamura corner.

Credit due
"St Johnstone deserve a lot of credit," Vennegoor of Hesselink told uefa.com. "They defended well and made it hard for us. But it's about winning and we can now look forward to a nice day at the end of the season in what will hopefully be a league and cup double." Gordon Strachan's side will play the winners of tomorrow's second semi-final between Hibernian FC and Dunfermline Athletic FC with the final at Hampden Park on 26 May.
