Article body
FC Girondins de Bordeaux's hopes of qualifying for the UEFA Champions League have been hit by the news that Brazilian centre-back Henrique will miss the rest of the season with a knee injury.
Six-month absence
The 23-year-old was taken off in the second half of Sunday's match at AS Saint-Etienne, which Bordeaux won 2-0 to move to third spot in Ligue 1. A statement from the club's medical staff said: "MRI scans showed he tore his right knee ligaments. He will undergo surgery and miss the next six months."
Final hero
Henrique was the club's hero on 31 March when his last-gasp header gave them a 1-0 win against Olympique Lyonnais in the final of the French League Cup. Henrique, who joined Bordeaux in 2005 from Brazilian side CR Flamengo, will miss the last five games of the Ligue 1 campaign as Ricardo Gomes' side try to seal a UEFA Champions League spot for the second year in succession.
