Midfielder Paul Telfer has had his contract with Celtic FC cancelled by mutual consent after deciding to return to England for family reasons.
Celtic successes
The 35-year-old, capped once for Scotland, joined Celtic from Southampton FC in July 2005, winning a league title and the Scottish League Cup in his first season at the club, and playing 21 more Scottish Premier League games in the current campaign as Gordon Strachan's side seek a second successive triumph. They are 13 points clear at the top of the table.
Club statement
"He has now decided to return to England to be with his family," read a club statement. "Celtic have reluctantly accepted Paul's decision and we fully respect his request to end his contract with the club. Clearly, everyone at the club wishes Paul and his family all the very best for the future."
Family matters
Telfer's contract had been due to expire this summer, and he said back in December that he intended to spend more time with his family at their home in Winchester. "I went a month without seeing my son," he said. "He has just started school so doesn't really appreciate what his dad has up in Scotland. He's more interested in Scooby Doo than football."
