Ruthless Nürnberg end final wait

Members

1.FC Nürnberg are through to the German Cup final for the first time in 25 years after a comprehensive 4-0 win against Eintracht Frankfurt on Tuesday evening.

Engelhardt opener
Marco Engelhardt gave his side a third-minute lead before further goals from Ivan Saenko (25), Tomáš Galásek (54) and Chhunly Pagenburg (90) ensured that Hans Meyer's side will pit their wits against either VfB Stuttgart or VfL Wolfsburg in the final, with a UEFA Cup place at stake. Nürnberg got off to a dream start when Saenko brushed past a raft of defenders and saw his effort on goal blocked by Eintracht goalkeeper Oka Nikolov into the path of Engelhardt, who scored from close range. Eintracht twice came close to equalising, but it was the lively Saenko who again made the difference, latching on to Andreas Wolf's pass to make it 2-0.

Galásek free-kick
The visitors could have reduced arrears on the half-hour mark when Nürnberg custodian Raphael Schäfer just got the better of Ioannis Amanatidis in a one-on-one scenario and the Frankfurt side paid dearly for the miss nine minutes after the interval, when Czech Republic defender Galásek fired a 25-metre free-kick past Nikolov. Friedhelm Funkel's side continued to create but struggled in front of goal, unlike their clinical opponents who added a fourth through Pagenburg in the final minute. Nürnberg will take on either Stuttgart or Wolfsburg, who meet tonight in the other last-four tie, in the final on 26 May.
