NK Dinamo Zagreb have reclaimed the Croatian championship after a 4-1 home win against NK Medjimurje on Saturday put them out of reach of HNK Hajduk Split.
Convincing display
With four rounds to play, Dinamo have 80 points from 29 matches while Hajduk have 67 after they were held to a 1-1 draw by fourth-placed NK Slaven Koprivnica. An early header from Croatia midfielder Luka Modrić and Danijel Stefulj's own goal gave Dinamo a 2-0 lead in the first half before Davor Piskor pulled one back in the 51st minute. The champions held on as Piskor almost levelled with a fine solo run before Mihael Mikić and Vedran Corluka sent the home crowd into raptures with late goals. Dinamo will enter the 2007/08 UEFA Champions League in the first qualifying round.
Cup final
Striker Eduardo da Silva, the league's top scorer, said: "We worked the whole season for this and this is our reward. Now we are going to celebrate a little bit, but not too much, as we have a cup final and four championship matches left." Zagreb coach Branko Ivanković said: "This is my first championship title with Dinamo - but I hope not my last."
