Allardyce quits Bolton job

With two games left this season, Sam Allardyce has resigned as manager of English Premiership side Bolton Wanderers FC after eight years in charge.

UEFA Cup spot
Allardyce has guided Bolton to the brink of qualification for next season's UEFA Cup, with Wanderers fifth in the table with two games remaining. Last season he steered Bolton to the UEFA Cup Round of 32, where they were beaten 2-1 on aggregate by Olympique de Marseille. Allardyce, a former Bolton player, was interviewed for the England manager's job last year before the position was eventually filled by Steve McClaren.

'Reasons are private'
"This has been one of the hardest decisions I've ever made but it's time for a new exciting era for Bolton under different leadership," said Allardyce. Bolton chairman Phil Gartside said: "I have reluctantly accepted the decision. His reasons are private, we respect that."
