The Swiss dominated the early exchanges at the Bouleyres stadium with Vanessa Bürki missing an open goal before striker Schäpper found the net with 16 minutes on the clock from Isabelle Meyer's cross. Belgium responded well in the second half but were not able to capitalise on a number of good openings. The match was the first of a home double-header for Switzerland, who welcome the Netherlands to the town of Zug on Wednesday. Belgium, meanwhile, do not play again in the qualifiers for the finals in Finland until October when they travel to four-time defending champions Germany.
