Adriaanse ends reign in Ukraine

Co Adriaaanse has resigned as coach of FC Metalurh Donetsk with four games to play in the 2006/07 Ukrainian season.

'Very sorry'
The 59-year-old Dutchman only arrived in December 2006 and leaves the club in eleventh spot in the 16-team table, having failed to challenge the big two of FC Dynamo Kyiv and FC Shakhtar Donetsk. After breaking the news to his players that he and assistants Jan Olde Riekerink and Chris Kronhorst were leaving, Adriaanse said: "I am very sorry that we have to end our co-operation. I am leaving now, with four games to play, because it would be very difficult to get the team prepared for next season during the summer break in Ukraine." Belgian Joos Daarden has stepped up from the reserves to take charge on an interim basis.
