VfB Stuttgart will replace the retiring Markus Babbel with FC Hansa Rostock defender Gledson at the end of the season, the Brazilian having agreed a three-year contract.
'One of the best'
The 27-year-old has played more than 100 2. Bundesliga matches for Rostock, LR Ahlen, VfL Osnabrück and SC Fortuna Köln. "With Markus ending his career in the summer, it was clear we had to sign a new centre-back," said Stuttgart sporting manager Horst Heldt.
Babbel situation
"I'm pleased we were able to sign one of the best defenders in the second division. We believe Gledson can play an important role in our young team," continued Heldt. Stuttgart are resigned to parting company with Babbel, the 34-year-old former German international and FC Bayern München player, who has been limited to two league appearances this term. The Swabian club are a point behind Bundesliga leaders FC Schalke 04 with two games to play.
