Second triumph
George Donis's side, who are locked in a relegation battle in the Greek Super League, claimed the honours thanks to goals from Josef Kozlej and Henri Antchouet, which sandwiched a Dimitrios Papadopoulos penalty for Victor Munez's side. The triumph is Larissa's second in the Greek Cup - the first having come against PAOK FC in 1985, when the Thessalia club won 4-1. Panathinaikos's defeat compounds an inconsistent campaign for the Athens outfit, who will nonetheless also play in next season's UEFA Cup as they cannot be displaced from third place in the league with one game to play.
Fotakis instrumental
Larissa started the match in Volos's Panthessaliko Stadium with confidence and took the lead after just three minutes when Kozlej rose above Giannis Goumas to head in Georgios Fotakis's right-wing free-kick. Panathinaikos drew level a minute before the break when Papadopoulos scored from the spot, after Marco Forster was adjudged to have fouled the Greek international, but Larissa clinched the cup with just eight minutes remaining. Fotakis was again the architect, picking out substitute Antchouet with a measured long ball which the striker drilled past Pierre Ebede.
