Gabri agrees new Ajax deal

Dutch Cup winners AFC Ajax have extended the contract of Spanish international midfielder Gabriel García by two years in a deal that will keep him at the club until July 2011.

Gabri joined Ajax from FC Barcelona last summer and has since played 43 matches for the first team, scoring six times, with five of his goals coming in 31 Eredivisie games. The 28-year-old was sent off in the last minute of Sunday's Dutch Cup final against AZ Alkmaar, which the Amsterdam outfit won on penalties, and the resulting three-match ban means he will miss both legs of the Eredivisie play-off against SC Heerenveen. Should Ajax progress he would also sit out the first instalment of the play-off final, with a place in the third qualifying round of the 2007/08 UEFA Champions League on offer to the winners.
