Olympiacos CFP have parted company with veteran Brazilian playmaker Rivaldo after failing to agree terms on a contract extension with the 35-year-old.

Triple triumph
Rivaldo, who joined the Piraeus outfit in summer 2004, has been instrumental this season, scoring 15 times as the club claimed a third successive Super League title. The Brazilian gave an emotional press conference to announce the news while a statement from the club said: "The player did not accept the particular proposal and consequently Olympiacos CFP would like to thank him for his efforts up to today and wishes him good luck."

European hope
The club's supporters were expecting their talisman to remain in Athens for one last stab at taking them through the UEFA Champions League group stage. But the former FC Barcelona and AC Milan man will not even be present at the club on Sunday when Olympiacos host a party to celebrate the championship following their final match of the season against Ionikos FC.
