FA Cup disappointment
Carvalho, who celebrated his 29th birthday on Friday, will miss the FA Cup final against Manchester United FC after damaging medial ligaments in his right knee against Bolton Wanderers FC in April but there will be some consolation in a new deal that will keep him with the Premiership runners-up until 2012. "He has been a key player for us since he joined and is without doubt one of the world's best central defenders," Chelsea chief executive Peter Kenyon said of a player who joined the London club for €30m shortly after winning the UEFA Champions League with FC Porto in 2004 and went on to lift the Premiership in each of his first two seasons in England. "The only shame is he will miss Saturday's game through injury."
