Lenkoran claim Azeri crown

FK Khazar Lenkoran are celebrating their maiden title in Azerbaijan after a 3-0 win at FK Gilan on Wednesday ended their battle with PFC Neftchi.

European place
Emin Guliyev, Rashad Abdullayev and Zaur Ramazanov all scored for Lenkoran before the interval in their final game of the season, with Ramazanov's effort making him the league's leading marksman with 20 goals in 24 games in 2006/07. Lenkoran will now take their place in the UEFA Champions League first qualifying round, while second-placed Neftchi will join the UEFA Cup at the same stage.

Araz joy
A 4-2 last-day victory over PFK Turan Tovuz was not enough for Neftchi to reduce Lenkoran's two-point advantage, while third-placed FK Baku also ended the campaign on a high, beating FK Karvan Evlakh 2-1. Lenkoran's championship is great news for MKT Araz, who will now go into the UEFA Cup first qualifying round in the place allocated for the Azerbaijan Cup winners. Khazar meet Araz in the final on 28 May.
