FC Dynamo Kyiv defeated their great rivals FC Shakhtar Donetsk 2-1 to win the Ukrainian Cup for the ninth time in their history on Sunday and leave the Premier League leaders on the cusp of a domestic double.

Rodrigo off
Kleber opened the scoring on the hour for Dynamo, whose advantage looked in danger when Rodrigo saw red for a second yellow card in the 70th minute. Nevertheless, the Kiev club coped admirably with ten men and doubled their lead with nine minutes to play through Oleh Gusev after the midfielder had combined neatly with fellow livewire Miloš Ninkovic. The Croatian's countryman Darijo Srna was then instrumental in Elano Blumer's 89th-minute goal for Shakhtar, a strike which came too late to spark an improbable comeback.

Late save
Shakhtar had been the superior team for much of the match, and the outcome may have been different had their playmaker Matuzalem not been absent through injury - and Dynamo goalkeeper Oxandr Shovkovskiy not denied Polish international Mariusz Lewandowski in added time. It is the third season a row in which Dynamo have lifted the trophy, with another in the form of the Premier League crown likely to follow soon with the club - in their 80th year - needing just a point from their final two matches to win the title.
