Club Brugge bring Geraerts home

Belgian international defender Karel Geraerts has made a long-awaited "homecoming" to Club Brugge KV, signing a five-year contract as a free agent.

Belgian international defender Karel Geraerts has made a long-awaited return to Club Brugge KV after joining from R. Standard de Liège on a free transfer.

'Homecoming'
The 25-year-old has signed a five-year deal with the Belgian Cup winners, returning to the Jan Breydel stadium having first departed to join KSC Lokeren OV on loan in January 2004. A lack of first-team opportunities precipitated that move, and he signed a permanent contract with Standard six months later. In three years in Liege Geraerts made almost 100 league appearances, winning 12 international caps before opting to return to Club Brugge. "Three years ago I did not get much playing time but now I have another chance," said the player, who was out of contract at Standard. "This feels like a homecoming."
