Fond farewell
The 32-year-old Makaay had asked Bayern for a transfer with the two clubs agreeing undisclosed terms for his move back to the Netherlands. He has signed a three-year contract in Rotterdam. Bayern chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge said: "In the name of Bayern and the club's fans I want to thank Roy Makaay for four very successful years in Munich. Roy was a very important player, scored 102 goals in 178 competitive games and showed great personality on and off the pitch."

Wolfsburg offer
The Dutchman won back-to-back doubles with Bayern in 2005 and 2006 after joining the German side from RC Deportivo La Coruña in 2003 for a then record fee of €19m. However, following the arrival of Germany striker Miroslav Klose from Werder Bremen earlier this week, the Netherlands international - who has won 43 caps for his country - future looked in doubt and he chose to join Feyenoord despite an offer to link up with former Bayern coach Felix Magath in his new position at Wolfsburg.

Hofland arrives
Former BV Vitesse star Makaay will be joined at his new club by the 28-year-old Hofland, who has signed a four-year contract at the De Kuip stadium after the club paid Wolfsburg an undisclosed fee for his services. Capped seven times for the Netherlands, he played under newly-appointed Feyenoord coach Bert van Marwijk at Fortuna Sittard before moving on to PSV Eindhoven in 2000 and joining Wolfsburg in 2004. Feyenoord will not be playing in Europe this season but have signed Giovanni van Bronckhorst, Tim de Cler, Andwéle Slory and Luigi Bruins as they look to return to continental action in 2008/09.
