SC Heerenveen have handed Kristian Bak Nielsen the chance of UEFA Cup football after he signed from FC Midtjylland in his native Denmark on a four-year contract.

High hopes
The Dutch club, who finished fifth in the Eredivisie, will enter the 2007/08 UEFA Cup and defender Bak Nielsen hopes this will further his international ambitions, having represented his country in a Hong Kong friendly tournament in January. "I hope that with Heerenveen I can force my way into the Danish national team," the 24-year-old said. "Heerenveen are in Europe for the fourth successive year. By playing in these matches, you can improve and my goal is to become a more complete player." He was a regular for the past five seasons at Midtjylland, after coming through the ranks at the Herning club.
