Article body
UEFA Champions League contenders Olympique de Marseille have agreed a deal with AJ Auxerre to take midfielder Benoît Cheyrou to the Stade Vélodrome for the next four seasons.
Undisclosed fee
No fee has been disclosed for the transfer and Cheyrou will also complete a medical in the next few days. Marseille president Pape Diouf said: "He is a player who can balance our midfield."
No reunion
The 26-year-old played for LOSC Lille Métropole for five years, taking part in the club's first UEFA Champions League campaign in 2001/02. His brother Bruno starred alongside him then, and a reunion of the pair at UEFA Cup qualifiers Stade Rennais FC had been mooted. However, the lure of UEFA Champions League football has proved decisive and he will hope to represent Marseille in the group stage of the competition starting in September. Cheyrou made 98 league appearances apiece for Lille and Auxerre.
