The midfielder has extended his deal by two years, keeping him at Espanyol until the summer of 2011. Riera has made 36 Primera División appearances for the Catalan team, scoring four goals, since arriving from FC Girondins de Bordeaux in 2006. He also scored Espanyol's first goal in the 2-2 draw with Sevilla FC in the UEFA Cup final in Glasgow – a match that was lost on penalties. The left-sided player began his career with RCD Mallorca before spending two campaigns with Bordeaux. He has also had a loan spell at Manchester City FC.
