'Severe injury'
The 26-year-old Iranian international suffered the injury in a pre-season friendly against Villarreal CF on Tuesday, having only been on the pitch five minutes as a second-half substitute. Osasuna club doctor Patxi Ciprián said: "The first scan wasn't conclusive but tests today have confirmed a severe injury. We will get a second opinion but the initial recovery period has been set for six months." Nekounam joined Osasuna last season from Al Sharjah and scored twice in 24 Spanish league appearances.
