Article body
With the new Montenegrin season upon us, commentators are busy predicting whether or not champions FK Zeta can hold off FK Budućnost Podgorica again this time around. Yet after a summer of rebuilding FK Mogren are planning to throw the championship wide open.
'Interesting' season
Zeta edged the title by two points in the inaugural Prva crnogorska season as Budućnost were left to rue their inability to kill off games. Despite only losing once, ten draws proved their downfall but such was the gap between the best and the rest, they ended an incredible 27 points clear of third-placed OFK Grbalj. Mogren were seven points further back in fifth but coach Miodrag Bajović is approaching the new campaign in confident mood, saying: "We have the ability to put pressure on Zeta and Budućnost. This season will be different and very interesting."
New leadership
It is an impressive claim for a side overlooked by many but having been the only team to defeat Budućnost last term, Mogren have a habit of upsetting the odds. Bajović brought in Bojan Begović and former FK Sutjeska captain Drazen Medjedović over the summer, yet even with them the Budva outfit could be hard pressed to overcome Zeta and a Budućnost side in determined mood after missing out two-and-a-half months ago. The capital club have brought in a new coach, Saša Petrović, and he insists expectations are high.
Božović departure
"We have just one aim: to win the title," he said. "I am sure we have the quality to do that. It is very important for us to make a good start because a winning mentality is what this team perhaps lacks." That killer instinct could be further dulled following the departure of Montenegro goalkeeper Mladen Božović, but Neđeljko Vlahović, Marko Scepanović and 20-year-old striker Ivan Vuković have all been brought in, the latter after missing the whole of last season with a broken arm.
Zeta 'priority'
Zeta's own aspirations are in the balance with Slaven Stjepanović, Marko Ćetković and Janko Tumbasević all linked with moves away from the club. Yet having been eliminated from the UEFA Champions League second qualifying round by Rangers FC, Zeta are focused on the task in hand. "Winning the title again was always our priority," said defender Milan Radulović. "We made a good impression on the European stage and now we must be on top form from the beginning in the league." They will look to hit the ground running on Saturday.
