Under-21 record
The 21-year-old, who played at Charlton Athletic FC last season in a similar arrangement, has moved to the Birmingham club in a €3m deal after Liverpool signed RC Lens's Charles Itandje as back-up for Pepe Reina. Carson has made a record 29 appearances for England at Under-21 level, has played twice for the B team, and was also in the senior squad for the 2006 FIFA World Cup though he is yet to win a full cap.
O'Neill 'delighted'
Carson has joined in time to face Liverpool FC in Villa's opening Premier League fixture on Saturday. Villa manager Martin O'Neill told the club's official website: "I'm really delighted. I think he has the potential to be an absolutely top-class goalkeeper."
