Derby County FC have signed United States midfielder Benny Feilhaber from Hamburger SV for €1.5m on three-year deal.

Davies deal
The 22-year-old, who is awaiting clearance to play in tonight's match at Manchester CIty FC, joined Hamburg in 2005 and broke into the first-team last season. He has been capped ten times and has scored twice, including his country's winner in the CONCACAF Gold Cup final against Mexico in June. Feilhaber joins Derby on the day manager Billy Davies signed a one-year contract extension that will keep him at the English Premier League newcomers until summer 2010.

Chairman delighted
Derby chairman Peter Gadsby said negotiations had taken place in recent weeks and was "delighted to announce" the extension. The Glasgow-born former Rangers FC midfielder arrived at Derby a year ago from Preston North End FC and guided them to promotion at the first attempt, via a play-off final victory against West Bromwich Albion FC at Wembley. Davies, 43, first began coaching at Motherwell FC in his native Scotland, before moving on to Preston as assistant manger. He assumed the top job in 2004 and spent two seasons in charge before Derby came calling.
