Valenciennes soar in Ligue 1

Valenciennes FC moved level with AS Nancy-Lorraine at the top of Ligue 1 after coming away from FC Lorient with a 3-1 win on Tuesday night.

Lorient knew a victory would lift them up to first place but Grégory Pujol struck twice in the first half to put the visitors in control. Sylvain Marchal pulled one back before the break only for Sébastien Roudet to complete the Valenciennes triumph late on. His team are now level with unbeaten Nancy, having played a game more, with 13 points to Lorient's eleven. There are seven more Ligue 1 fixtures on Wednesday though Nancy are not in action as they were scheduled to play Toulouse FC, who were at Liverpool FC tonight in the UEFA Champions League.
