Rangers revel in Old Firm romp

A Nacho Novo double ensured Rangers FC continued their fine recent record against Celtic FC with a 3-0 home win in the sides' first meeting of the season.

Two Nacho Novo goals ensured Rangers FC continued their impressive recent record against Celtic FC with a resounding 3-0 home win in the sides' first meeting of the season.

Novo impact
The victory at Ibrox means Walter Smith's side have now won their last three meetings with champions Celtic, whom they joined on 22 points in the Scottish Premier League table. Spanish striker Novo, on his second league start of the season, broke the deadlock on 27 minutes as he moved between two defenders to head in an Alan Hutton cross from close range.

Second-half strikes
Home captain Barry Ferguson doubled the advantage eleven minutes into the second period, pouncing on a loose ball to prod past Celtic goalkeeper Artur Boruc. Novo rounded off an impressive win 12 minutes from time, beating Boruc from the penalty spot after Evander Sno had fouled Charlie Adam. Both sides are in UEFA Champions League action next week, with Rangers welcoming FC Barcelona to Glasgow on Tuesday and Celtic travelling to SL Benfica the following day.
