Portugal coach Luiz Felipe Scolari given a three-month ban by UEFA's Appeal Body.
Article body
Portugal coach Luiz Felipe Scolari's appeal to UEFA over his suspension for assault has been partially upheld.
Three-month ban
The UEFA Appeals Body, meeting on Thursday, has given Scolari a three-month suspension from all competitions following incidents at the end of the UEFA EURO 2008™ qualifying Group A match against Serbia in Lisbon on 12 September. Scolari was originally banned for four matches by the UEFA Control and Disciplinary Body.
Probationary period
One month of the suspension involves a probationary period of two years. This means Scolari will actually serve a two-month suspension, and will be banned for a further month if he commits an offence within the two-year period. The CHF20,000 (€12,022) fine originally imposed on Scolari by the UEFA Control and Disciplinary Committee will stand. Scolari may still appeal to the Lausanne-based Court of Arbitration for Sport within ten days of receiving the reasons for the appeal verdict.
Function ban
Following the Appeals Body verdict, Scolari will be banned from exercising his function as coach for the EURO qualifiers in Azerbaijan and Kazakhstan in October, and at home against Armenia in November. Before and during the match, he will not be allowed to go in the team dressing-room, the tunnel, or the technical zone, or on the pitch. In addition, he will not be allowed to communicate with his team.
