Pauleta spoke of his "pride and honour" after scoring his 100th goal for Paris Saint-Germain FC on Wednesday to equal Dominique Rocheteau's club record.
Late strike
The Portuguese striker, now 34, scored both goals in a 2-0 French League Cup win against second division Montpellier Hérault SC, with the second – deep into added time – confirming his side's first home win of the season and taking him to his century. "It's a source of pride and honour," said Pauleta who is also the Portugal national team's all-time top scorer with 47 goals in 88 appearances.
Equal billing
Having come on as a substitute and scored twice in a 3-2 defeat against Olympique Lyonnais at the weekend, Pauleta is now level with Rocheteau – who shone in the French capital between 1980 and 1987 – as the club's top scorer. "I have been chasing this record," Pauleta said. "It was one of my aims for this season. I dedicate this 100th goal to the fans. They deserve it as they supported us throughout."
'Confidence and pace'
The former FC Girondins de Bordeaux, RC Deportivo La Coruña, UD Salamanca and GD Estoril-Praia player was reportedly close to leaving the club in the summer, but insisted he was settled now. "I'm not here to send messages to anyone – just to help PSG until the last day of my contract." PSG coach Paul Le Guen added: "Pauleta's confidence and pace are back. That's good for the team."
