Karlsruhe continue to fly high

Karlsruhe SC returned to the Bundesliga's top four with a 1-0 defeat of MSV Duisburg while VfL Bochum 1848 held on for a 5-3 win against VfL Wolfsburg.

Karlsruhe SC returned to the top four of the Bundesliga with a 1-0 defeat of MSV Duisburg on Sunday while VfL Bochum 1848 moved three points clear of the relegation zone after a goal-filled 5-3 win against VfL Wolfsburg.

Kapllani winner
Having made an impressive start to their first top-flight campaign in nine seasons, Karlsruhe slipped behind Hannover 96 after Saturday's games but Edmond Kapllani set them on the way to victory this afternoon with a goal on 29 minutes. Late in the game Duisburg had Björn Schlicke sent off, but although Kapllani then missed a penalty, his earlier strike was enough for victory against the second-bottom side.

Bochum hold on
However, Bochum made a vital move away from the basement in a high-scoring encounter with mid-table Wolfsburg. Stanislav Šesták struck for Bochum after four minutes, Marcel Maltritz added a penalty and Danny Fuchs and Šesták scored late in the half to put the home team into a seemingly impregnable lead. Within eleven minutes of the restart Marcel Schäfer and Grafite had raised Wolfsburg hopes, but those were dashed just past the hour by a goal from Joël Epalle, though Grafite did reduce arrears again with 17 minutes left.
