Longford Town FC's eight-season stay in Ireland's top flight is over as the club were relegated from the Premier Division on the final day of the 2007 season.
Agonising finish
Longford, who were deducted six points for licencing irregularities earlier in the season, needed a win at home to Derry City FC on the last day of the campaign and they also needed Waterford United FC to lose away to Shamrock Rovers FC, but despite a 3-1 win over Derry, Longford drop down to the second tier as Waterford drew 0-0, though the club still have something to look forward to as Town have reached the final of the Irish Cup, playing Cork City FC.
Final placings
The main prizes in Ireland had already been decided before the final day of the season as Drogheda United FC had won the Premier Division title while Saint Patrick's Athletic had sealed second place and a place in the UEFA Cup. Bohemian FC finished third, thanks to a 1-0 win at Cork and that will see the Dublin side enter the UEFA Intertoto Cup next term. Waterford United FC finished second from bottom in the final table and they must now play either Finn Harps FC or Cobh Ramblers FC from the second tier in a promotion/relegation play-off.
