Feyenoord and AFC Ajax shared the points in a 2-2 draw that leaves the Amsterdam club top of the Eredivisie on goal difference and a point above PSV Eindhoven.

Arch rivals Feyenoord and AFC Ajax shared the points in a compelling 2-2 draw in the 'Dutch Classic' as the Amsterdam club remained top of the Eredivisie on goal difference and a point ahead of PSV Eindhoven, who also drew.

Van Bronckhorst opener
Giovanni van Bronckhorst opened the scoring for Feyenoord after 27 minutes when he completed a delightful move involving Luigi Bruins and Roy Makaay. Dennis Rommedahl equalised early in the second half with a well-placed shot and, midway through the half, Siem De Jong put Ajax ahead after the hosts defence failed to clear the ball.

Penalty miss
Ajax were reduced to ten men after George Ogararu came off injured with Ajax having already made three substitutions and a 74th-minute penalty gave Feyenoord the opportunity to level the match. Goalkeeper Maarten Stekelenburg saved the spot-kick from Theo Lucius but Jonathan De Guzman netted the rebound. Ajax held on for a draw however, keeping them top with 25 points after eleven matches on goal difference from Feyenoord.

PSV point
Third-placed PSV missed out on the chance to leapfrog the co-leaders when they were held at home against AZ Alkmaar, who took the lead on 36 minutes through their Brazilian striker Ari. Jefferson Farfán's equaliser (59) means that PSV, who have yet to win under new coach Jan Wouters, remained within a point of the top. Elsewhere, SC Heerenveen won 1-0 at BV Vitesse to stay fourth while sixth-place Roda JC were comfortable 5-1 winners against FC Groningen.
