PFC CSKA Moskva have confirmed that Brazil midfielder Daniel Carvalho has prolonged his contract with the club until the end of 2009.

End to speculation
A statement on CSKA's website said: "Lately, there have been many ungrounded rumours and speculation about Daniel Carvalho leaving CSKA. CSKA can report that the club's contract with Carvalho has been extended until the end of 2009 with an option for a further extension. We hope this information will end talk not only of Carvalho's departure but also about a so-called 'Brazilian problem' at CSKA which has been made up by the media."

Peripheral figure
The 24-year-old's deal with CSKA had been due to expire this month. In the 2007 season, Carvalho made just seven appearances in the Russian Premier-Liga and Russian Cup, scoring once. He also featured twice during the UEFA Champions League group stage, recording two assists in a 4-2 defeat at FC Internazionale Milano, with whom he had been heavily linked. CSKA, who have other high-profile Brazilians in their ranks such as Vágner Love and Jô, finished third in the Premier-Liga and exited the European competitions after coming fourth in their UEFA Champions League group.
