Champagne moment for Cork in cup

Denis Behan was on target as Cork City ended the Republic of Ireland season on a high note by defeating Longford Town FC 1-0 in the FAI Cup final in Dublin.

Cork City FC made up for a disappointing league campaign by claiming the FAI Cup with a 1-0 victory against Longford Town FC in the final in Dublin.

Richardson pride
Denis Behan struck the game's only goal on the hour, beating Longford goalkeeper Shay Kelly with a diving header as he connected with a John O'Flynn cross. Cork's margin of victory could have been greater as they twice rattled the crossbar in the last ten minutes and the misery was complete for recently relegated Longford when defender Pat Sullivan was sent off for a second bookable offence in the closing minutes. Cork manager Damien Richardson, whose future is uncertain, said: "The players deserve the credit for winning this final in the manner that they did, I don't want the headlines to be about me."
