Yvon Pouliquen has taken over as coach of FC Metz with the team bottom of Ligue 1.

Nine points adrift
Metz sacked Francis De Taddeo in the wake of Saturday's 2-0 loss at one of Pouliquen's old teams, FC Lorient, leaving the club nine points adrift of their nearest rivals FC Sochaux-Montbéliard with only one win in the first half of the season. The newly-appointed 45-year-old left Ligue 2 side Grenoble Foot 38 at the end of last season having also led RC Strasbourg and EA Guingamp.

'Decent challenge'
Pouliquen, who has signed a contract until summer 2010 and will begin his reign away at LOSC Lille Métropole on 12 January, said: "I could have taken over another side at the beginning of the season. But I was waiting for a decent challenge and Metz are a decent challenge. I am aiming only to finish as high as we can."
