Portsmouth stump up for Basel prospect

FC Basel 1893 have allowed 18-year-old stiker Danijel Subotic to join Portsmouth FC for an undisclosed fee after a successful trial spell with the Premier League side.

'One for the future'
Capped by Switzerland at Under-17 and U19 level, the youngster has signed a three-and-a-half year contract with Portsmouth, and manager Harry Redknapp has high hopes for the future. "He was recommended to us so we brought him over for a few days' training and he did well," he said. "We've taken a gamble on him and hopefully he's one for the future. We'll see how he goes." Basel meet Sporting Clube de Portugal in the UEFA Cup Round of 32 in February, playing the second leg of the tie at home.
