Two goals in as many minutes from Simon Vukčević and Marat Izmailov earned Sporting Clube de Portugal a 2-0 home win against leaders FC Porto.
Double strike
Sporting, trailing Porto by 14 points before the game at the José Alvalade Stadium, saw their opponents take an early grip of the game with Lucho González shooting wide after just 35 seconds. The hosts then took the lead after 13 minutes when Izmailov's cross allowed Vukčević to beat Helton with a low shot. Two minutes later it was 2-0 as Bruno Pereirinha's cross was headed in by Izmailov following a save from Helton.
Porto chances
Porto coach Jesualdo Ferreira replaced Marek Čech with striker Ernesto Farías and the Portuguese champions pressured after the break. González planted a header wide while Sporting defender Anderson Polga made a goalline clearance from Farías, who then hit the bar with a header. Despite the defeat, Porto are still eight points clear at the top of the table from SL Benfica with Sporting three points further back in third.
Leiria relief
Elsewhere, bottom side UD Leiria secured their first league win of the season with a 3-1 win against A. Académica de Coimbra. Leixões SC earned a 1-0 home win against FC Paços de Ferreira while A. Naval 1º Maio and CF Estrela da Amadora shared the spoils with a 1-1 draw. Finally, CD Nacional were held to a goalless draw against Vitória FC.
