Emmanuel Adebayor was again among the scorers as Arsenal FC defeated Newcastle United FC 3-0 for the second time in four days to move three points clear at the top of the Premier League.

Adebayor goal rush
Arsenal had beaten Kevin Keegan's side by the same scoreline in the FA Cup on Saturday and they repeated the feat with another convincing display in north London. Adebayor struck twice against Newcastle on Saturday and added another tonight with a header to put his team in front shortly before half-time and take his tally to 16 in 21 league games. He has scored nine times in his last seven matches in all competitions. Mathieu Flamini, with a brilliant 25-metre drive, and Cesc Fabregas completed the victory in the second half. Manchester United FC are at home to Portsmouth FC tomorrow needing to win to draw level with Arsène Wenger's side.

Sunderland climb
Elsewhere, Sunderland AFC climbed out of the bottom three at the expense of Wigan Athletic FC thanks to a 2-0 win at home to Birmingham City FC, Daryl Murphy and new signing Rade Prica scoring in each half. Wigan lost 1-0 at Middlesbrough FC where Jérémie Aliadière struck after 19 minutes. In the evening's other game, Bolton Wanderers FC drew 0-0 with second-bottom Fulham FC.
