In-form Denmark defender Martin Laursen has ended speculation about his future by agreeing a new two-and-a-half year deal with Aston Villa FC.
Commitment
The 30-year-old has committed his future to the Premier League team to cut short speculation surrounding a player whose contract was due to expire in the summer. Laursen has been outstanding this season, consigning three injury-ravaged campaigns in England to memory with a string of eye-catching performances.
Unexpected bonus
Villa manager Martin O'Neill said: "You would have been hard-pressed to find anyone to believe Martin would have made the impact that he has for Villa this season." Ever-present in the Villa starting lineup, Laursen has contributed six goals from 22 games to help the Birmingham side to sixth place in the Premier League – his tally including three strikes in two matches against Tottenham Hotspur FC, one of several clubs who had reportedly targeted the former AC Milan centre-back.
