Edman returns to England with Wigan

Erik Edman will link up with fellow Sweden defender Andreas Granqvist after agreeing to join Wigan Athletic FC from Stade Rennais FC.

The 29-year-old left-back has signed a contract until summer 2010 in a transfer estimated to be worth €670,000. Before arriving in Rennes in 2005, Edman played in the Premier League with Tottenham Hotspur FC, the highlight of his 31 appearances being a strike against Liverpool FC that earned a goal of the season award. Prior to moving to Tottenham, Edman was with Helsingborgs IF and SC Heerenveen. "Getting to play in the toughest league in the world again feels awesome," said Edman, who was preceded at Wigan yesterday by Honduras defender Maynor Figueroa, 24, recruited on loan from CD Olimpia.
