Two late strikes by Zlatan Ibrahimović gave FC Internazionale Milano a 3-2 success against Parma FC and kept them seven points clear of AS Roma, who were 2-0 winners against Calcio Catania.
Late drama
Esteban Cambiasso's goal on the half-hour mark appeared to have set Inter on their way to a routine victory but Luca Cigirini (41) and Andrea Gasbarroni (69) put their unbeaten league record under severe threat. Fernando Couto was sent off with three minutes remaining for a handball on the goalline following an Ibrahimović shot and Parma could not hold out with the Swedish striker scoring from the resultant penalty seconds later before firing an added-time winner.
Roma cruise
Ludovic Giuly opened the scoring for Roma early on at the Stadio Olimpico and Daniele De Rossi secured the points with a 57th-minute penalty. Juventus are now five points behind the capital club as they could not find a breakthrough against a determined UC Sampdoria side with David Trezeguet hitting the crossbar and having an effort cleared off the line.
Gilardino winner
AC Milan continued their domestic recovery but needed a late winner from Alberto Gilardino as they won 1-0 at Udinese Calcio. Meanwhile, S.S. Lazio conceded a last-minute equaliser at SSC Napoli in a 2-2 draw. The Rome side went behind to a fourth-minute Marek Hamsik strike only to turn the game on its head with goals from Cristián Ledesma (26) and Goran Pandev (30). However, Slovakian midfielder Hamsik struck late on to leave both sides with a point apiece.
Palermo upset
Elsewhere, struggling AC Siena won 3-2 at high-flying US Città di Palermo with Simone Loria landing the winning goal with 12 minutes remaining. There were also wins for AS Livorno Calcio over Empoli FC, courtesy of a Francesco Tavano penalty five minutes after half-time, and Reggina Calcio who won 2-0 against bottom side Cagliari Calcio.
