Real Zaragoza coach Víctor Fernández has parted company with the club after a 2-2 home draw against RCD Mallorca on Sunday left them two points above the relegation zone.
Winless run
Zaragoza finished sixth in the Primera División last season but have struggled this time around. The result against Mallorca made it nine league games without a victory and left them 12th in the table. The club also had a disappointing European campaign as they exited the UEFA Cup via a surprise first-round loss to Aris Thessaloniki FC.
Cup success
A statement read: "It has been decided by mutual agreement between the club and the coach to rescind his contract. The club would like to thank him for his efforts and professionalism." Fernández took charge for a second time in 2006, having previously guided Zaragoza to victory against Arsenal FC in the UEFA Cup Winners' Cup final of 1995.
