RCD Espanyol's hopes of securing a place in UEFA club competition next season have taken a blow after captain Raúl Tamudo broke his left arm in training today.
Surgery pending
The 30-year-old forward, who will be sidelined for two months, has been in fine form this season, scoring ten goals, and helping Espanyol to a 17-match unbeaten run in all competitions that was ended by UD Almería on 13 January. Tamudo, who holds the record for most league games for the Barcelona club after making his 282nd appearance against Real Vallodolid CF on Sunday, joins goalkeeper Iñaki Lafuente on the sidelines.
Lafuente out
Lafuente, 31, pulled his right thigh during the 2-1 defeat at Valladolid, meaning Espanyol are now short of cover after Carlos Kaméni's departure for the African Cup of Nations with Cameroon. Kiko Casilla replaced Lafuente and should retain his place against Real Betis Balompié this weekend. Espanyol are fifth in the Primera División.
