Derby County FC's bid to avoid relegation from the English Premier League has been bolstered by the signing of experienced former England B defender Alan Stubbs.
Long career
The 36-year-old joins on an 18-month contract from Everton FC following a long career taking in spells at Bolton Wanderers FC, Celtic FC – where he was diagnosed with, then recovered from, testicular cancer – and after his first four-year stint at Everton, Sunderland AFC. He arrives alongside 30-year-old Northern Ireland goalkeeper Roy Carroll, who has completed a free transfer from Rangers FC on a six-month deal, replacing Ipswich Town FC-bound Stephen Bywater.
'First-class pro'
Manager Paul Jewell, whose team are eight points adrift at the bottom of the Premier League, said of the Stubbs move: "It's a terrific capture for us. Stubbsy is a first-class pro, someone who has been there, seen it and done it. I'm delighted to have him on board and he will add experience and steel to the back line."
