AS Nancy-Lorraine's recent slump continued as they suffered a surprise 2-1 defeat by amateur side US Jeanne d'Arc Carquefou in one of the biggest shocks in the history of the French Cup.
Late winner
Nancy sit third in Ligue 1 but the former leaders have been on a poor run of form that has seen them fail to win in nine league games. The Round of 32 match against fifth-tier Carquefou offered them the chance to rebuild their confidence but they succumbed to defeat thanks to a 117th-minute winner from Sebastien Le Paih for the amateur outfit. Extra time was required to separate the sides after a goalless 90 minutes and the minnows eventually took the lead ten minutes into the additional period through Laurent Delanoe although Marc-Antoine Fortune did level four minutes later.
Lyon survive
Ligue 1 leaders Olympique Lyonnais were also made to work hard to overcome lower division opposition but a free-kick from Fred with ten minutes remaining finally broke the resistance of fourth-tier outfit O. Croix-de-Savoie and kept them on course for a first league and cup double in France. Top-flight sides OGC Nice and AJ Auxerre had already made shock exits from the competition with respective defeats by Ligue 2 teams SCO Angers and SC Bastia on Saturday.
Grandin impresses
Elliot Grandin scored one goal and set up another on his Olympique de Marseille debut to help his side to a 3-1 win against AS Monaco FC. The 20-year-old, a recent arrival from SM Caen, set up Mathieu Valbuena on seven minutes before adding the second himself within three minutes courtesy of a spectacular volley. In-form Djibril Cissé put the result beyond doubt for the side who have lost the last two finals before Djamel Bakar scored a consolation for Monaco.
