Chelsea FC manager Avram Grant said that Frank Lampard and John Terry “deserve to be the heroes of the club” following the England duo’s part in their FA Cup win against Huddersfield Town AFC on Saturday.
Returns
Both Lampard and Terry have suffered with injury in recent weeks, but were both on the field at the weekend ahead of the UEFA Champions League trip to Olympiacos CFP on Tuesday. Lampard was playing only his second game since recovering from a thigh problem but struck twice in the 3-1 fifth-round victory to take his club goal tally to 101. Meanwhile, Terry made an earlier than expected comeback after a broken foot to aid the holders’ advance in the competition.
'Heroes'
"They deserve to be the heroes of the club because of what they give to the team," Grant said. "There are many midfielders in the world but you cannot compare Frank to anybody else. He is a midfield player who can do everything on the pitch but his best quality is to score goals. When he gets a chance, he scores. I was surprised how quickly [Terry] came back from this injury. I thought it would take a week or two more. He is a great defender, a great player, a great leader."
Lampard relief
Lampard was delighted to be back and admitted: "It's been very frustrating to be out for six weeks and miss a lot of games. Now I'm just very fired up and ready to get stuck in until the end of the season. I don't want to miss any more games." He praised his defensive team-mate, adding: "John was amazing today, to come in after a broken foot and play the way he played, like he'd never been out."
