Third operation
The 25-year-old is expected to be out for three to four weeks after the operation – declared a success – which was his third of the season after procedures for adductor and ankle problems. Degen had only just returned to training when it was decided that this latest surgery was needed, and Dortmund coach Thomas Doll said: "I hope Philipp is now finally over his problems and will soon be back to full fitness." The former FC Basel 1893 wing-back has been limited to eight Bundesliga appearances this season.
New contract
Meanwhile, Dortmund midfielder Sebastian Kehl has signed a new four-year contract, replacing a deal that was due to expire this summer. "I am 100 per cent committed to this club," said the 28-year-old, who has been capped 31 times by Germany. He arrived at the Westfalenstadion in 2001/02 from SC Freiburg and has since played 140 top-flight games for the Yellow and Blacks.
