The Lithuanian Football Federation decided that Vilnius, who finished seventh in the A Lyga in 2007, failed to meet the necessary criteria in terms of finanace and infrastructure. "This is a shock," said Vilnius president Algimantas Breikšaitis, whose squad mostly comprises young Lithuanian players. Vilnius may now attempt to join a lower league in the national pyramid.
