FC Spartak Moskva have been given a lift with the news that goalkeeper Stipe Pletikosa and midfielder Mozart have both signed four-year contract extensions, keeping the pair at the Russian Premier-Liga club until 2012.
New deals
Croatian international Pletikosa, whose previous deal was due to expire in November 2009, joined the Moscow club in March 2007 and has established himself as the club's No1 keeper ahead of Polish international Wojciech Kowalewski. The 29-year-old former HNK Hajduk Split and FC Shakhtar Donetsk player has made 30 league appearances for Spartak. Brazilian Mozart, 28, has also committed himself to the club, the vice-captain having made 48 league outings since arriving in 2005 from Reggina Calcio.
European bid
Spartak, who opened the new league season last week with a 0-0 draw away against defending champions FC Zenit St. Petersburg, will play in the third qualifying round of the UEFA Champions League in the 2008/09 season after ending the 2007 Russian campaign in second place.
