Calcio Catania have announced that coach Silvio Baldini is leaving the club by mutual consent.

Relegation fears
The decision comes in the wake of Sunday's 2-1 home defeat by Torino FC which left the Sicilian outfit 16th in Serie A, hovering above the relegation zone on goal difference only. The 49-year-old Baldini, who replaced Pasquale Marino in the summer, had extended his contract until 2009 in December. Walter Zenga, who resigned as coach of FC Dinamo 1948 Bucureşti earlier this season, has been tipped to succeed Baldini. Earlier on Monday, bottom side Empoli FC reappointed former boss Luigi Cagni in place of Alberto Malesani.
